Message from the President
Nippon Marine traces its origins back to a shipping company founded in 1900 by Enjiro Tatsuzawa. In 1923 the business was reorganized as a joint-stock company under the name of Maru-Raku Shipping. Over the following three-quarters of a century, the Company underwent a number of name changes, finally emerging as the Nippon Marine Co., Ltd. Thanks to the solid foundations and experience we have amassed in our more than one-hundred years of operation, we at Nippon Marine enjoy a firm and high-profile position within the Japanese goods distribution and logistics sector.In 1951, Nippon Mining Co., Ltd., the forerunner of Nippon Mining Holdings, Inc. commenced management participation in the Company.
Today, Nippon Marine is engaged in shipping services, principally domestic coastal and near sea services, and also operates a shipping agency business as well as customs clearance and related businesses. We carry cargo for a large number of customers, including the members of the Nippon Mining Holdings Group.
Amid today's growing trend toward rationalization in our customers' industries, we at Nippon Marine make constant efforts to devise new, more efficient goods distribution systems and to propose their use to our customers. At the same time, we expend considerable energy on ensuring that our transportation systems are as environment-friendly and as safe as possible. Our aim is to leverage our ability to provide a comprehensive and intermodal goods transportation service, based on our core business of marine transportation, to realize reductions in the cost of moving freight, and thereby achieve ever-higher levels of customer satisfaction.
